Collins played in nine games with Chicago last season, recording 13 tackles. He has appeared in 22 games over three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Bears and has 23 tackles in his career.
The NFL says Chicago Bears defensive tackle Nate Collins has been suspended without pay for the upcoming season opener for violating its substance abuse program. The punishment was announced Thursday. The league did not say what the violation was.|||||||
Collins was also fined an additional game check but will be able to return to the active roster on Sept. 10, a day after the opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

A state police spokeswoman said Monday that Collins was on Route 29 when his vehicle was stopped for an illegal window tint. A trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from Collins' vehicle and the spokesman said Collins agreed to allow the trooper to search his 2011 Dodge. State police said a small amount of marijuana was found. Collins also was charged with a window tint violation.
