Allen has left the Philadelphia Eagles' game against Chicago with a concussion.|||||||
Allen is Philadelphia's starting free safety. He was injured in the first quarter during Chicago's scoring drive. Jay Cutler threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Matt Spaeth to give the Bears a 7-0 lead Monday night.
Allen has a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee and will have season-ending surgery.|||||||
Allen, drafted with the second-round pick Philadelphia acquired from Washington in the Donovan McNabb trade, is the fourth defensive starter to go down for the season. A potential fifth, middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, is out with a dislocated elbow and may not return until the playoffs. Allen was hurt in the Eagles' 38-31 win over the New York Giants. His knee appeared to buckle while he tackled Mario Manningham.
Allen has solidified his position as a starter with his play during training camp.|||||||
Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott calls Allen unshakable, and says the second-round pick from South Florida has earned the respect of his peers. McDermott made his comments after Wednesday morning's practice at Lehigh University. The Eagles struggled last season to find a capable free safety after perennial Pro Bowler Brian Dawkins signed with Denver as a free agent. Allen was given the starting spot at the beginning of camp.
