Patterson missed the Thursday night game against the Bengals.
Patterson has been activated off the reserve/non-football illness list and is ready to play for the first time this season. Patterson is eligible for Monday night's game at New Orleans (2-5). Patterson says he's "really anxious" to return to the field and expects to play only a few snaps as he eases his way back into the lineup.|||||||
He suffered a seizure at practice on Aug. 3, 2011, and was diagnosed with a brain AVM, or arteriovenous malformation, a prenatal condition in which blood travels abnormally between the arteries and veins. He played the first 15 games of last season but was not cleared to play for the start of this season because the incision where he had brain surgery in January hadn't fully healed.
The Philadelphia Eagles have ruled out defensive tackle Mike Patterson for their entire training camp and possibly more because the incision where he had brain surgery in January hasn't fully healed. Patterson was diagnosed with a brain malformation last August after suffering a seizure during a training camp practice at Lehigh University.|||||||
Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder said Sunday that a piece of Patterson's cranium was taken off in January so neurosurgeon Dr. Robert Spetzler could remove the arteriovenous malformation, a tangle of veins and arteries that doctors determined caused the seizure. Burkholder said Spetzler determined Friday after examining an X-ray and CT scan that the area of Patterson's cranium that he operated on hadn't healed sufficiently to allow Patterson to return to football.
Patterson, who collapsed and suffered a seizure at practice just 10 days ago, has returned to the Philadelphia Eagles.|||||||
Patterson did not practice Saturday, but was in uniform doing strength and conditioning drills with trainer Rick Burkholder and several other teammates for the first time since his scary episode on an adjacent field. Patterson didn't answer questions, but he did smile broadly and tell reporters, "I feel great," while leaving the practice field.
The agent for Mike Patterson says the Eagles defensive tackle has been released from a hospital after suffering a seizure Wednesday at practice. Agent J.R. Rickert says in a statement Friday that Patterson is scheduled to see a neurologist in the next few days.|||||||
On Thursday, Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder said Patterson has a brain condition that may require surgery. Rickert disputed a definite diagnosis of AVM, which are malformations or tangles of arteries and veins that alter blood flow. Earlier Friday, Eagles coach Andy Reid said Patterson "is making progress and getting tests done."
