Panthers coach Ron Rivera says, "Mitchell should provide competition in the secondary and we know Captain is a tough, hard-nosed competitor capable of making big plays." Mitchell joins the Panthers after playing the first four seasons of his career with the Raiders. He has nine career starts.
A person familiar with the situation says the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a one-year contract with Mitchell. The person spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the move has not been publically announced.|||||||
Mitchell played in 61 games with nine starts during four seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He had 41 tackles last season and one sack. Mitchell will have a chance to compete for the Panthers starting strong safety job with Haruki Nakamura and D.J. Campbell. The team moved Charles Godfrey to free safety last season.
