Trent Edwards beat out Kafka for the third-string quarterback job with the Philadelphia Eagles.||||||| Kafka was released Friday afternoon, leaving Edwards and rookie Nick Foles behind Michael Vick on the depth chart.

Kafka completed 4 of 7 passes for 35 yards with two INTs and was sacked once in Sunday's 29-16 loss to the Giants.||||||| Kafka could start against the 49ers if Michael Vick is out. After a solid effort last week in Atlanta, he was much worse against New York.

Kafka completed 7 of 9 passes for 43 yards Sunday in the Eagles' 35-31 loss at Atlanta.||||||| Kafka could start in the home opener against the Giants if Michael Vick is out. If that is the case, monitor the health of the Giants' beleaguered secondary before deciding whether to start Kafka, who looked good in Atlanta.
