Robinson, the former Penn State quarterback who has played sparingly in two NFL seasons, was injured when he ran into rookie guard Chilo Rachal during the 49ers' first full-contact practice Monday morning. Robinson returned to the club's training complex in the afternoon after the minor surgery, but the 49ers didn't provide a timetable for his return. Robinson has rushed for just 237 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL career, instead playing mostly on special teams.

Robinson had 25 yards on six rushes with a long of 10, while Hicks added 30 yards on three carries with a long run of 20. Gore, the 2006 NFC rushing leader, will sit out at least the 49ers' first three exhibitions with a broken hand. Robinson - the former Penn State quarterback - had 116 yards on 38 attempts with two touchdowns, while Hicks rushed for 82 yards on 29 carries last year.
San Francisco coach Mike Nolan said Robinson will receive significant playing time this week against Kansas City after he scored two touchdowns against Philadelphia last week while filling in for the injured Frank Gore. Robinson, a rookie from Penn State who was converted from quarterback to running back, finished with five carries for 29 yards.|||||||
Gore is expected to play this week, but he fumbled near the goal line for the second straight week, meaning Robinson might become the team's goal-line back. He has seven carries for 28 yards in three games, but ran hard and showed promise with his performance against the Eagles.
