Oher was fined $5,000 by the NFL for his actions in Sunday's game against Cleveland.|||||||
Oher's fine stems from punching Browns defensive end Robaire Smith. Oher hit Smith after Smith shoved Baltimore tight end Todd Heap following a whistle that had stopped play for a false start.
The two-hour practice for the Ravens on Friday was notable for several reasons. Oher moved to left tackle - thereby assuming responsibility for the quarterback's blind side - and Jared Gaither shifted to the right side.|||||||
It was clear that this move would come to fruition. Oher's story in the Michael Lewis book "The Blind Side" chronicled his rise from poverty to a star football player in college at Ole Miss. The title is derived from Oher's ability to protect the blind side and the book was turned into a movie by the same title in which actress Sandra Bullock received her first career Academy Award.
The Ravens have reached a five-year deal with Oher.|||||||
The deal reached Wednesday ends a two-day holdout by Oher, the No. 23 pick in this year's NFL draft. The contract is expected to exceed the five-year, $12.55 million deal that last year's pick at Oher's slot - Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall - signed last summer. Oher, projected to start at right tackle, is the last rookie of the Ravens' draft class this year to agree to terms.
