The Colts have put linebacker Gary Brackett and safety Melvin Bullitt on injured reserve, ending the season for two of Indianapolis' defensive starters.||||||| Bullitt missed most of last season with a shoulder injury, was re-injured in Week 2 and sat out last week. He is scheduled for surgery this week.

Bullitt has agreed to a three-year deal to stay with the Colts.||||||| Bullitt is a five-year veteran who has started 24 of 48 games, all in place of injured safety Bob Sanders. He'll be the starter from day one this time, but is coming off a season-ending right shoulder injury.

The Colts announced that Bullitt, Bob Sanders' replacement, will miss the rest of the season with a right shoulder injury. It's not what the team needed after giving up 31 points and 174 yards rushing at Jacksonville.||||||| Bullitt's injury status was first reported by Players and coaches were not available for comment Tuesday, their regular day off. He is scheduled to have surgery on the injured shoulder and will be placed on injured reserve. The former undrafted free agent had started 24 of Indy's past 36 regular-season games, mostly in place of the oft-injured Sanders, and had become one of Indy's most consistent tacklers.

The Colts gave Bullitt a second-round tender, agent Leonard Roth confirmed in an e-mail to The Associated Press. The Colts did not have any comment.||||||| Bullitt has become an increasingly important cog in the Colts defense, starting in place of the oft-injured Bob Sanders. In 2008, he had two interceptions to seal victories and last year, with Sanders unable to play in 14 games, Bullitt wound up fifth on the team with 72 tackles. He also made the fourth-down stop against New England that gave Peyton Manning a chance to rally the Colts in the final two minutes.
