The Indianapolis Colts jumped at the chance to get a veteran backup for Andrew Luck. On Tuesday, this year's busiest team in free agency signed Hasselbeck to a contract. Terms were not immediately released.|||||||
Indy needed a veteran backup after Drew Stanton left for Arizona, where he was reunited with Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. Hasselbeck is a three-time Pro Bowl selection who led Seattle to the Super Bowl in 2005. He was released by Tennessee and didn't stay on the street long after Tennessee released him Monday.
The Tennessee Titans have released veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, a move buying the team some more cap space after they couldn't work out an agreement trimming his $5.5 million salary for 2013.|||||||
Hasselbeck, 37, spent the past two seasons with Tennessee, leading the Titans to a 9-7 record and just missing the playoffs on a tiebreaker in 2011. He threw for 3,571 yards, the fourth-best passing season in the team's history and the third highest of Hasselbeck's career.

Hasselbeck hit Nate Washington for the game-winning TD pass with 1:03 left. Jake Locker (shoulder) is expected to get the starting job back when he returns from a shoulder injury in Week 8.

Doctors checked Locker's left, non-throwing shoulder again Monday. Coach Mike Munchak said he didn't have the results, but that the quarterback is healing up enough that he may start throwing later this week. There is no quarterback controversy. Munchak says Locker will play when healthy.
Hasselbeck was 25 of 44 for 290 yards with a TD and interception against the Steelers on Thursday.|||||||
