Barber has told the Bear's website that he plans to retire.||||||| His decision comes one day after Michael Bush signed a four-year, $14 million contract to be part of a backfield that includes disgruntled Pro Bowl running back Matt Forte. The 28-year-old Barber spent his first six NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before signing with the Bears in 2011. He was a backup to Forte last season and then saw extensive duty when Forte was injured in early December.

Barber carried the ball 27 times for 108 yards and a score during Sunday's 13-10 overtime loss at Denver.||||||| Barber went out of bounds when the Bears were trying to run out the clock and also lost a key fumble late in the game, almost single handedly costing them the win. Despite the blunders, he posted solid fantasy numbers and clearly has the upper hand over Kahlil Bell in Chicago's backfield.

Barber was active for Chicago for Sunday's game against Carolina after missing the first three games because of a calf injury,||||||| Barber will be behind Matt Forte.

Barber hurt his calf in the first half of Saturday's preseason game against Tennessee and did not return.||||||| Barber caught an 8-yard pass from Jay Cutler, then ran for 2 yards on the next play on third-and-1 to pick up a first down just before the end of the first quarter. It wasn't clear exactly how he was hurt.
