The Seattle Seahawks have released cornerback Marcus Trufant, who missed most of last season with a back injury. General manager John Schneider says the team decided to release Trufant on Wednesday to give him an opportunity to "explore the full window of unrestricted free agency."||||||| Drafted by Seattle with the 11th overall pick in 2003, Trufant started all but one of the 124 regular-season games he played with the Seahawks. He also started all nine postseason games he played with the team. He finished his career with Seattle with 21 interceptions - returning two for touchdowns. Trufant was voted to the Pro Bowl after recording a career-high seven interceptions during the 2007 season.

Seattle placed Trufant on injured reserve with a back injury that will end his season.||||||| Trufant was injured in Seattle's Week 4 loss to Atlanta. Coach Pete Carroll said Trufant suffered a bruised sacrum - a triangular bone at the base of the spine - and Trufant was so sore he was unable to bend over and tie his shoes before Seattle's win at the New York Giants in Week 5. Trufant was replaced in the lineup against the Giants by second-year cornerback Walter Thurmond. Trufant is the longest-tenured Seahawk, having spent all his nine NFL seasons in Seattle.

Trufant and tight end John Carlson are returning from Chicago after both suffered concussions in Sunday's NFC divisional playoff loss to the Bears.||||||| A team spokesman said Monday the pair had been released from the hospital where they were held overnight for observation and were returning to Seattle. Trufant was injured in the second half making a tackle on Bears tight end Kellen Davis in the third quarter. His head appeared to collide with Davis' knee.
