McNeill injured his neck during a loss to the Oakland Raiders on Nov. 10 and was inactive for the last two games
McNeill has agreed to a five-year contract extension through 2015 believed to be worth $48.5 million, with $24.5 million guaranteed.|||||||
McNeill said after practice Wednesday that the sides were still tweaking the deal and that he expected to sign it Thursday. His agent, Alvin Keels, and the team later announced the sides had agreed. McNeill will make his season debut Sunday at St. Louis.
McNeill ended his holdout Saturday when he signed his one-year contract tender as a restricted free agent.|||||||
However, he must sit out the next three games because he and wide receiver Vincent Jackson were placed on the roster exempt list by general manager A.J. Smith on Aug. 20. McNeill will be eligible to play Oct. 17 at St. Louis.
McNeill, a two-time Pro Bowl player, remains sidelined with a neck injury.|||||||
He did work on the side with the team's strength coaches, but has yet to be cleared to practice. McNeill, who hasn't played in any of the exhibition or regular-season games, hopes to put on pads next week.
McNeill was added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster on Tuesday, giving San Diego 10 players in the NFL all-star game.|||||||
McNeill is an injury replacement for Bengals tackle Willie Anderson. The Pro Bowl will be played Feb. 10 in Honolulu.
