The Washington Redskins have placed Kemoeatu and Phillip Daniels on injured reserve.||||||| Kemoeatu said Wednesday he has a left shoulder injury that will probably require surgery.

Free-agent nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu (ma-AH-kay key-moy-AH-too) has signed with the Washington Redskins. Kemoeatu spent last season on injured reserve with the Carolina Panthers after tearing his Achilles tendon in training camp.||||||| Kemoeatu has 291 tackles and four sacks in 107 NFL games, including 61 starts, with Carolina (2006-09) and Baltimore (2002-05). The 31-year-old Kemoeatu's signing Wednesday represents the latest low-key move in a relatively quiet free agency period so far for Washington under new coach Mike Shanahan and new general manager Bruce Allen. The Redskins signed offensive lineman Artis Hicks on Saturday.

The Carolina Panthers have placed Kemoeatu on injured reserve, ending his season the same day he underwent surgery on his torn right Achilles' tendon.||||||| Kemoeatu was injured minutes into Carolina's first training camp practice Monday. Kemoeatu said Tuesday he was holding out hope of returning for the last month of the season, but the Panthers likely couldn't hold a roster spot that long.

Kemoeatu is likely lost for the season due to a torn right Achilles' tendon.||||||| Kemoeatu was injured minutes into the Panthers' opening training-camp practice Monday while running during a position drill. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said they have yet to determine if they will place Kemoeatu on injured reserve. Recovery time from that injury is several months.
