He was with Kansas City last year after spending his first four seasons with the Ravens. McClain is the fourth former Ravens player to sign with San Diego since 2011, joining linebacker Antwan Barnes, Gaither and Johnson.
McClain was helped from the field in the second quarter of Sunday's game against Tampa Bay after spraining his left ankle.|||||||
The team said he was out for the game. Trainers attended to McClain near the sideline before he was helped from the field. McClain was unable to put any weight on the injured ankle.
McClain ran 25 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Ravens secure the final AFC wild-card berth with a 27-7 rout of the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.|||||||
McClain's performance followed his season-high 139-yard effort in a win at Dallas on Dec. 20. The second-year running back was the Ravens' leading rusher, finishing with 902 rushing yards and 10 TDs this season. The playoffs open for Baltimore next Sunday on the road against AFC East champion Miami.
A play after Willis McGahee broke the record for the longest run by an opponent at Texas Stadium, McClain topped it, going 82 yards for the longest touchdown of his career. He finished with 139 yards in the Ravens' 33-24 win in Dallas on Saturday night.|||||||
McClain has been a solid short yardage back, but he showed some solid burst last night, topping 100 yards for the first time in his career.
McClain carried 18 times for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens' 36-7 win over Philadelphia on Sunday.|||||||
A good effort by McClain, but it's hard to endorse him as a starter when it seems unclear who will get the majority of Baltimore's carries each week.
