A person familiar with the negotiations says the Buffalo Bills have reached an agreement to re-sign McKelvin to a four-year contract worth a little over $20 million.|||||||
McKelvin is Buffalo's 2008 first-round draft pick, who was eligible to become a free agent on Tuesday. He was used mostly as a third cornerback last year, when he finished with one interception in 13 games, including four starts. Overall, he has six interceptions in 64 career games, with only 33 starts. McKelvin has made a bigger impact on special teams having scored four touchdowns returning kickoffs and punts, including two last year.

McKelvin is a former first-round pick in the final year of his contract and eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. He set franchise records for punt return yards with 431 this year, giving him the career record at 637. He has taken two punts back for touchdowns this season as well.
McKelvin acknowledges he was wrong and will not dispute a $75 fine for failing to follow a crew member's orders during a flight to Buffalo.|||||||
McKelvin said Thursday that he was ticketed for refusing to turn off his cellphone and failing to buckle his seatbelt while traveling from New York City on Tuesday. He says he's apologized and intends to pay the fine. Buffalo's 2008 first-round draft pick adds he should've known better and did what he was told.
McKelvin returned to practice Thursday after hurting his ribs in a 28-24 loss to the Jets last weekend.|||||||

McKelvin was considered expendable because there was no clear timetable on when he could return after breaking his leg in the first half of a 27-7 loss to New Orleans on Sunday. The 2008 first-round draft pick becomes the seventh Bills player to be placed on injured reserve this season, and joins starting right tackle Brad Butler and starting tight end Derek Schouman, who were placed on the list last week after both sustained knee injuries.
