The Steelers and Timmons have agreed to a new six-year contract. The deal, announced early Tuesday, will pay Timmons $50 million through 2016. Timmons is the second linebacker to sign an extension with the Steelers in the last month.||||||| Timmons, selected with the 15th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, had 95 tackles and three sacks last season.

Timmons is expected to play against the Bears, although it is uncertain whether he will start.||||||| Timmons left practice early Wednesday and didn't sound optimistic about playing, but went through full practices Thursday and Friday.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Timmons was back on the practice field Monday for the first time since he injured his groin in the first week of training camp.||||||| Timmons was the Steelers first-round pick and is considered a likely replacement for Joey Porter.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Timmons' groin injury is nothing more than an aggravation.||||||| It is uncertain when Timmons will return to action, but the rookie is expected to work with the team trainer.

Timmons, an outside linebacker who is practicing at Joey Porter's old position, reinjured his groin Thursday during the first of a pair of two-hour practices and will be out indefinitely.||||||| Timmons initially hurt himself May 11 and had not practiced again until this week. Timmons is expected to press former backup James Harrison for playing time at right outside linebacker, Porter's position before he was released by Pittsburgh and signed with Miami in March.
