Landry was a Pro Bowl selection last season with the New York Jets, his first season in the AFC. He started 79 of 80 games over the previous five seasons with the Washington Redskins.
Landry has been activated from the physically unable to perform list after passing his physical, and has been cleared to practice when the team opens training camp Friday.|||||||
Landry, signed as a free agent in March, was placed on the PUP list Monday after not practicing with the team during offseason workouts. He had been rehabbing an Achilles/heel injury that cut short his season last year with the Washington Redskins.
York Jets safety LaRon Landry is "ahead of schedule" in his rehabilitation from Achilles and heel injuries, and hopes to be healthy for the start of training camp next month.|||||||
Landry, signed to a one-year deal in March, says Wednesday that he spent much of the offseason working on his own in Arizona and receiving "advanced" non-surgical treatments to heal the injuries that were "more of like a bone issue," and cut short last season with the Washington Redskins. He says his Achilles is "totally healed" and "I've been ahead of schedule."

The former Redskins safety finished each of the last two seasons on injured reserve and played in just 17 games. He damaged his left Achilles tendon in 2010. Last season, he struggled with a strained hamstring, a pulled groin and again with an Achilles problem. Landry opted not to have surgery on the Achilles tendon injuries because "it wasn't really an Achilles issue."
Landry has agreed in principle on a one-year deal with the Jets, filling one of New York's most pressing needs.|||||||
Landry spent his first five NFL seasons with the Washington Redskins after he was picked No. 6 overall in the 2007 draft out of LSU. The hard-hitting Landry had a number of teams interested in him despite finishing last season on injured reserve with an Achilles injury.
