The signing Wednesday is an insurance move in case Stephen Cooper can't play due to a torn right biceps. Cooper, hurt in Sunday night's exhibition win at Dallas, returned to practice on Wednesday and hopes to play in Saturday night's game at Arizona. Bentley is a 10-year veteran who played with Houston last year.
Bentley signed with the Houston Texans on Monday.|||||||
The six-year NFL veteran played 43 games, including five starts, the past three seasons with Seattle. He had 27 tackles in two starts last season.
The Seahawks signed Bentley to a one-year, $650,000 deal on Friday that includes a $150,000 signing bonus. The linebacker out of Northwestern has spent the first three seasons of his pro career with the Browns, who drafted him in the fourth round in 2002. He has played in all 32 games over the past two seasons, making 18 starts. Bentley has one career interception and no sacks on his current NFL resume.|||||||
Bentley could wind up at any one of the three LB spots in Seattle's 4-3 scheme. His signing comes a week after the Seahawks released linebacker Anthony Simmons.
