Lions claim CB Murphy
The Lions claimed CB Jerome Murphy off waivers from the Saints and released CB Kevin Barnes.

He was drafted by the Redskins in the third round in 2009 and played in 15 games. In 2011, he recorded a career-high 26 tackles and two interceptions in 15 games. He was traded to the Lions last year and played in two games before he was waived on Sept. 18.

Barnes said he was informed early Monday afternoon that he was on his way to Detroit. He said he didn't know any other details about the deal. Barnes was a third-round pick by the Redskins in 2009. He's played in 29 games with three starts over three seasons and has three career interceptions.

Barnes is a cornerback who played at Maryland and was the 80th overall pick in April. He posted the highest score (41) on the Wonderlic logic-thinking test given to prospects at this year's NFL Combine and is also well-known for a big hit that became an Internet sensation. Barnes leveled California's Jahvid Best last season, leaving Best on the ground several minutes before the running back vomited.
