Heard, 6-6 and 339 pounds, played for Rams defensive line coach Mike Waufle in Oakland in 2010 after making the team as an undrafted free agent. He made two starts last year for Buffalo.

Coach Chan Gailey had no immediate update except to say Heard was having tests. Gailey said backup offensive tackle James Carmon was also having tests after the undrafted rookie hurt his wrist. Heard, who is competing for a backup job, was hurt during a team drill when he went down in a pile of players. He was slow getting up, and then limped off into the end zone. That's where trainers spent about five minutes examining the player's foot and ankle.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and 355 pounds, Heard initially signed with the Raiders last spring as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Memphis. He also spent part of his college career at Texas A&M.
