The Buffalo Bills released Mitchell on Friday after coming to an injury settlement with the veteran linebacker.||||||| Mitchell was placed on injured reserve prior to the Bills' season opener against Miami after he hurt his foot in practice. The seven-year pro was coming back from a right knee injury that forced him to miss the final 11 games last season after he went on injured reserve.

Mitchell missed practice due to a foot injury and it's doubtful he'll play in the season opener against Miami on Sunday.||||||| Coach Chan Gailey declined to divulge details of the injury Thursday, except to say Mitchell was hurt in practice a day earlier and is "doubtful" to play. Mitchell was having tests to determine what Gailey called a "short-term and long-term" prognosis, an indication the injury could be severe. Mitchell, a seven-year NFL veteran, is a backup to Andra Davis.

Mitchell will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.||||||| He wa shurt in a 6-3 loss to Cleveland on Sunday and will require surgery. Mitchell was carried from the field after hurting his right knee early in the second quarter when he was hit by two Browns linemen while trying to make a tackle.

Mitchell has reached an agreement with the Buffalo Bills. The five-year veteran cashed in on the first day of NFL free agency Friday after winning a Super Bowl with the New York Giants.||||||| Mitchell started all 16 games for the Giants last season after being the team's only notable free-agent addition a year ago. He finished with 87 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and one interception in the regular season. He added two sacks in four playoff games, including one in the Giants' Super Bowl win over New England.
