The Oakland Raiders began shoring up their depleted defense on Wednesday by signing free agent linebacker Kaluka Maiava to a $6 million, three-year contract.|||||||
Maiava started 13 games last season for Cleveland with 30 solo tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and three passes defensed. Maiava has played 50 games over four seasons with the Browns after being a fourth-round pick out of Southern California.
The Cleveland Browns have lost Maiava for the season with a leg injury.|||||||
Maiava got hurt in Sunday's 16-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Browns placed the second-year player on injured reserve Tuesday. Maiava was credited with one tackle on special teams before he was injured. Cleveland selected Maiava in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. He made three starts last season and appeared in all 16 games, finishing with 40 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and one forced fumble.

Maiava, not as well known as some of the Trojans' other linebackers, reported for the first day of Cleveland's rookie training camp on Friday. A second-team All-Pac 10 selection as a senior, Maiava had 66 tackles and an interception last season.
