It wasn't immediately clear why the Jaguars needed a sixth receiver, but Laurent Robinson has missed several games because of concussions and appeared to slam his head on the ground late in Sunday's loss at Houston. The Jaguars also have starters Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts III as well as backups Micheal Spurlock and Kevin Elliott. Shipley has played in 18 games since entering the league as a third-round draft pick by Cincinnati in 2010.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are giving Shipley a chance to revive his NFL career just a few days after the 26-year-old wide receiver was waived by the Cincinnati Bengals. The former Texas star was the AFC's leading rookie receiver in 2010 before tearing ligaments in his left knee in Cincinnati's second game last year.|||||||
The Bengals thought Shipley had lost a step when they brought him back this summer, but that was not apparent to the Bucs in his first workout Tuesday.

Shipley was Cincinnati's starting slot receiver before he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Sept. 18. He wasn't cleared to practice fully until July 30. A third-round pick in 2010, he had one catch for 4 yards in the Bengals' two preseason games.

Shipley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Sept. 18. He was limited during drills in the offseason and wasn't allowed to practice when training camp opened on Friday. Shipley, who practiced for the first time on Monday, is in a group of receivers competing for the starting job in the slot. Andrew Hawkins and rookie Mohamed Sanu are expected to get a lot of time at the position during the preseason.
Shipley reported Tuesday that he's in the final phase of recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.|||||||
