Miami Dolphins defensive back Jonathon Amaya has been charged with battery after police say he choked a taxi driver. A Miami Beach Police report shows Amaya was arrested early Monday morning. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.|||||||
The report says Amaya offered the taxi driver $100 to take him from Miami Beach to Weston. The driver told police Amaya became aggressive, so he turned around the car and asked him to get out. The driver said Amaya then leaned forward, wrapped his hands around the driver's neck and starting choking him. Officers saw the taxi driving erratically and heard the driver scream "this man is trying to kill me." The driver wasn't injured.
Miami signed Amaya on Tuesday.|||||||
Amaya returns to the Dolphins after being part of the team's trade with New Orleans for Reggie Bush in 2011. He played in all 16 games for the Saints last season, after playing in 10 for the Dolphins as a rookie in 2010.
