The 5-11, 191-pound Patrick was New Orleans' second third-round draft choice in 2011 and played in 24 games over two seasons with one start. He was credited with 29 tackles on defense and six on special teams.
Patrick has hurt his right leg during Sunday's regular-season opener against the Washington Redskins, and has been carted to the locker room after being examined on the sideline.|||||||
Patrick, who started after New Orleans scratched Jabari Greer (groin), was hurt while breaking up Robert Griffin III's pass near the Saints' goal line. He needed help to the sideline, where trainers appeared to be looking at his right knee. The injury left the Saints with only three active cornerbacks: Patrick Robinson, rookie Corey White and Jerome Murphy, who was claimed off waivers from St. Louis at the end of the preseason.
Patrick has left New Orleans' preseason opener against San Francisco with an apparent knee injury.|||||||
Trainers were looking at Patrick's right knee behind the Saints' bench during the second half of Friday's exhibition game before the former Louisville standout was taken from the sideline on a cart. Patrick, selected with one of the Saints' two third-round picks last April, was credited with three tackles in his pro debut. Saints officials did not provide immediate word on Patrick's condition.
