Former Chicago Bears receiver Johnny Knox says he's giving up football. The Bears terminated Knox's contract Tuesday after he missed this past season recovering from a back injury. He needed surgery to stabilize a vertebra after he sustained a back injury against Seattle late in the 2011 season.||||||| Knox told the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday that his career is over and he's "moving on and going forward." Knox says he's not going to able to perform with the same ability he used to have. Knox had 133 receptions for 2,214 yards from 2009 to 2011 and was on special teams with 55 kickoff returns for 1,506 yards.

The Seahawks' Kam Chancellor poked the ball out of his hands following a reception, and as Knox made a diving attempt to retrieve it, he was hit by Anthony Hargrove and bent backward. Knox had 133 receptions for 2,214 yards from 2009 to 2011 and was a contributor on special teams with 55 kickoff returns for 1,506 yards.

Chicago Bears receiver Johnny Knox will miss the rest of the season after undergoing back surgery Monday. The injury is not considered career-threatening.||||||| Coach Lovie Smith confirmed that Knox would not play again this year. He was taken from the field on a cart early in Sunday's blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Smith says the surgery to stabilize a vetebra in his lower to mid back started Monday morning and was not finished as of midday.
