Skelton was a fifth-round pick from Fordham in 2010 who started 17 games in three seasons, including six last year. He has completed 53 percent of his passes for 3,707 yards with 15 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
The Arizona Cardinals have released quarterback John Skelton, who started 17 games for the team over the past three seasons. The move on Monday came amid reports the team was trying to work out a trade to bring quarterback Carson Palmer from Oakland.|||||||
Skelton beat out Kevin Kolb for the starting job under then-coach Ken Whisenhunt in training camp last season. He was hurt in the opener and Kolb took over.
Skelton didn't do any favors for himself while getting the start on Sunday, going 11 of 22 for 74 yards with four interceptions and a lost fumble before being replaced by Ryan Lindley.|||||||
Lindley didn't fare much better in the embarrassing 58-0 defeat, going 8 of 17 for 59 yards and losing a fumble of his own.
Skelton will be back at starting quarterback when the Cardinals play the Seahawks Sunday in Seattle. Coach Ken Whisenhunt says his decision to replace rookie Ryan Lindley was based on several factors, including the environment the Cardinals will face in Seattle, where the crowd is among the loudest in the NFL and the conditions are likely to be cold and wet.|||||||
Skelton says he is taking nothing for granted and just wants to complete more passes than he did when he was benched in favor of Lindley three games ago. Lindley says he understands the decision. Whisenhunt refused to replace Lindley with Skelton despite the Cardinals' woeful offensive performance in a 7-6 road loss to the New York Jets last Sunday. Arizona has lost eight in a row.
Skelton threw for 306 yards with a TD and an INT in Sunday's 31-17 loss to Green Bay.|||||||
