The two-year veteran played the first two games of the season for New Orleans before being waived Monday. He had an interception and 25 tackles in 14 games with St. Louis in 2010. The Lions, who were already missing safety Louis Delmas, and cornerbacks Chris Houston and Bill Bentley before Sunday's loss at San Francisco, lost cornerback Drayton Florence indefinitely after he suffered a broken arm during the game.
New Orleans has claimed Murphy off of waivers from the St. Louis Rams.|||||||
Murphy, whose acquisition was announced Sunday, was selected by the Rams out of South Florida in the third round of the 2010 draft. He played in 14 games as a rookie before missing all of 2011 with a broken ankle.
