Saturday retired as an Indianapolis Colts player Thursday and immediately started a new life in the organization that brought him into the league.||||||| After starting his 14-year career as an undrafted free agent, Saturday went on to play in two Super Bowls, winning one with the Colts, and teamed with Peyton Manning to set an NFL record for games played between a quarterback and center. The two played 170 games together. Colts owner Jim Irsay and Saturday opened the news conference by signing a one-day contract. Saturday will work in the team's marketing and community relations department.

The Green Bay Packers have released veteran center Jeff Saturday. General manager Ted Thompson announced the move Monday. Saturday, a six-time Pro Bowl selection in 14 seasons, was benched as a starter with two games left in the regular season in favor of Evan Dietrich-Smith.||||||| Saturday signed a two-year deal with the Packers as an unrestricted free agent in March 2012 after playing 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He had been the Colts' full-time starting center since 2000. He became a fan favorite, a key figure in the NFL Players Association and one of Peyton Manning's closest friends.

Coach Mike McCarthy has decided to take Saturday, a 14-year veteran in his first season with the Packers, out of the starting lineup at center and replace him with Evan Dietrich-Smith with two games left in the regular season. Green Bay (10-4) hosts the Tennessee Titans (5-9) on Sunday.||||||| Although Saturday has been coping with neck and shoulder injuries and didn't get on the practice field this week until the team held a short workout Friday, McCarthy indicated the late-season change isn't due to medical reasons. Saturday is probable for the game. Dietrich-Smith, 26, a third-year player, is 11 years younger than Saturday and has started only seven games as a pro. This would be Dietrich-Smith's first NFL start at center.

Saturday has been chosen to this year's Pro Bowl as a replacement for Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey.||||||| For Saturday, it will be his first trip Pro Bowl appearance since 2007. He was voted to the AFC team in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009, but didn't play last year when the Colts won the AFC title. Saturday has started 172 games since joining the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 1999.

Saturday is hoping to be in the starting lineup for the Colt's opener Sept. 12 at Houston. He was on the practice field Tuesday for the first time since having arthroscopic knee surgery three weeks ago.||||||| "Obviously my goal is going to be week one," Saturday told the Indianapolis Star. "That’s always been the goal. But I’m definitely not in a position that I can say that’s for sure. I’m working towards it."
