Johnson has been placed on season-ending injured reserve with a broken left thumb.|||||||
He sustained the injury in the team's exhibition opener at St. Louis last Saturday. Minnesota made the announcement before the Vikings played a preseason game Sunday night at San Francisco. The 26-year-old Johnson, who had a shot of making the 53-man roster, caught one pass for nine yards last season. He spent the 2008 campaign on the practice squad after the Vikings picked him in the sixth round of the draft out of Jackson State.
The Vikings agreed to terms with Johnson, a sixth-round draft pick, on Tuesday.|||||||
Johnson caught 36 passes for 613 yards and seven touchdowns for Jackson State last season. He returned a punt for a touchdown as a senior as well and should get a look on special teams as a return man. Johnson signed a four-year contract for the rookie minimum salary, his agent, Angelo Wright, said. The move assures that he will be on time for training camp, which opens Friday.
