Hunter spent the past three seasons in Denver, sitting out last year with a triceps injury. But he has familiarity with both McKenzie and Allen. He played the first three years of his career in Green Bay where McKenzie worked in the front office. He then played in Denver in 2011 when Allen was defensive coordinator.
Hunter was placed on injured reserve with a torn right triceps.|||||||
Hunter was hurt during training camp. He had supplanted Robert Ayers as the starter at left end two weeks ago. He could be replaced by rookie Derek Wolfe, the team's top draft choice who had two sacks at Chicago last week.
The Denver Broncos have re-signed Hunter, completing one of their offseason priorities.|||||||
The seventh-year pro has played in 92 games for Green Bay, Detroit and Denver, accumulating 128 tackles, 11 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. Hunter has played in all 32 regular season games and both playoff games for the Broncos since joining the team as a free agent in 2010. He started a dozen games that year while filling in for an injured Elvis Dumervil and recorded 59 tackles.
Hunter was struck in the left upper chest by a kitchen knife hurled at him by his girlfriend during an argument over cell phones, according to a police report obtained by The Associated Press.|||||||
Hunter told police the woman waved the knife and told him to stay back before throwing it "on accident" during the morning of April 27, according to the six-page report obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. She then took her boyfriend to receive medical treatment and later was arrested "after being pointed out by hospital security," the report said.
Detroit police say Hunter has been stabbed and taken to a local hospital.|||||||
Officer Dan Donakowski says Hunter was stabbed Wednesday, but didn't have any additional information, including where the incident took place, who was responsible and Hunter's condition. The hospital wasn't disclosed. Hunter is a five-year pro who also has played for the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
