The Steelers have released Harrison after the team and the hard-hitting defensive star who played on two Super Bowl champions failed to agree on a new contract.||||||| Harrison was voted AP's NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 after setting a team record with 16 sacks. The five-time Pro Bowl player has the longest interception return in Super Bowl history, a 100-yarder for a score against the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.

Harrison says he's endured "double digit" concussions during his career and is turning to a special sort of padding to help combat the issue.||||||| The four-time Pro Bowler said Tuesday he's never missed a game due to concussions but began using advanced padding to help deal with future head collisions. Harrison began wearing equipment inside his helmet initially developed as body armor for U.S. armed forces about a year ago after fracturing .

Harrison practiced in full Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Eagles.||||||| Harrison had minor surgery on his left knee in August. He has not played in a game of any kind since January, so his snaps will be limited.

Harrison and safety Troy Polamalu did not take part in the Steelers' final practice of the week and will not play Sunday at Oakland.||||||| The defensive standouts - named to a combined 12 Pro Bowls - will not dress for the second consecutive game. Harrison, who had surgery on his left knee Aug. 15, has not played yet this season. Polamalu missed last week's win over the New York Jets due to a calf injury.

Harrison did not practice on Friday and is questionable for Sunday's game against the New York Jets.||||||| Harrison, who hasn't suited up for a game since a playoff loss to Denver last January, said he "felt great" but allowed there's a risk in coming back too quickly. The knee has been bothering Harrison since minicamp and he underwent arthroscopic surgery on Aug. 15.
