Greer was hurt late in the second quarter and the Saints said he would not return, a blow for a New Orleans team already ranked last in the NFL in defense. Second-year pro Johnny Patrick took over for Greer, with rookie Corey White entering on passing downs as the nickel back.

Greer was out for the season opener against Washington. He spent much of the preseason rehabbing a sports hernia.

The 27-year-old Greer, 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, spent the past five years with the Buffalo Bills, starting 23 games over the past two seasons. Greer has four career interceptions, including two last season that he returned for touchdowns. He missed the final six games last season because of a knee injury.
