Taylor broke his left thumb in the first quarter of the 16-7 exhibition loss to the Washington Redskins on Friday night.|||||||
Coach Mike Tomlin said Taylor "could be out for a couple of weeks or so." The coach says he's not sure whether the thumb will require surgery. Taylor was injured on the game's second play and left later during the Redskins opening drive.
Taylor and New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks were ejected in the opening minutes of their preseason game on Saturday night for throwing punches.|||||||
Nicks was blocking Taylor downfield when tempers flared and a number of punches were exchanged. At least three officials tossed flags. Referee Scott Green called coincidental personal fouls and ejected both players.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Taylor Sunday to a four-year contract extension, assuring the team won't have any unrestricted free agents after this season. Taylor's deal runs through 2010 and would be worth $22.5 million if he plays through the final season, plus incentives. The Steelers cornerback will receive $6.4 million in guaranteed money.|||||||
Taylor was a fourth round pick in the 2003 NFL draft, has played in two AFC championship games and one Super Bowl with the Steelers.
