The Panthers on Tuesday waived the slumping Justin Medlock and replaced him with Gano.||||||| Carolina (2-8) signed Gano, a free agent, to a two-year deal after Medlock missed his last three field goals. Gano spent 2009-11 with the Washington Redskins, playing in 36 games and converting 59 of 80 field goal attempts (73.8 percent) with a long of 59 yards.

A person familiar with the move says the Washington Redskins have released Gano and replaced him with Billy Cundiff.||||||| The move comes one day after Gano had appeared to win the kicking job. His lone competition, Neil Rackers, was cut on Monday.

The Redskins cut Neil Rackers on Monday, giving Gano the kicking duties for another season despite an NFL-high 10 missed field goal attempts in 2011.||||||| Coach Mike Shanahan said Gano "won the statistical battle in practice" and that the 25-year-old kicker gets "undue criticism" because the blocks last season weren't the kicker's fault.

The Washington Redskins on Sunday cut Shayne Graham, leaving incumbent Gano as lone remaining kicker at training camp.||||||| Gano ranked last in the NFL in field goal accuracy last year, but he was 3 for 3 against the Steelers on Friday. Fantasy owners may want to give him a shot since the Washington offense will likely have trouble reaching the end zone, giving Gano more chances to kick field goals.

Shaun Suisham was cut Tuesday by the Redskins, who replaced him with Gano from the United Football League.||||||| Gano kicked the winning field goal in overtime for the Las Vegas Locomotives in the first UFL title game last month. He is from Florida State and spent training camp with the Baltimore Ravens.
