The Dallas Cowboys have released safety Gerald Sensabaugh to clear more room under the salary cap. Sensabaugh, a four-year starter for the Cowboys, sent a tweet Monday saying he had been released for cap purposes. The team reported on its website that the move saves $1.4 million under the cap, and the Cowboys avoid paying his $3 million salary in 2013. The Cowboys have cleared more than $20 million in cap space since last week.||||||| Sensabaugh signed as a free agent in Dallas 2009 and was a solid if not spectacular presence in their secondary. He missed two games in four years and led the team with a career-high five interceptions in 2010.

The Dallas Cowboys have signed safety Gerald Sensabaugh to a five-year contract extension. The team didn't release terms of the deal announced Friday.||||||| It's the first multiyear deal with the Cowboys for the seventh-year pro, who has 12 interceptions and 335 tackles in 93 career games, including 65 starts. A fifth-round pick by Jacksonville in 2005, Sensabaugh spent his first four seasons with the Jaguars before coming to Dallas. He had a career-high five interceptions last season.

Unrestricted free agent Gerald Sensabaugh is returning to the Dallas Cowboys to fill one of their safety spots. On his Twitter account, Sensabaugh wrote that he was "Headed back to the Big D" and was on his way Wednesday to training camp. A story on the team's website said Sensabaugh got a $2.5 million, one-year contract.||||||| Dallas lost out last week in its pursuit of free agent safety Nnamdi Asomugha, who took a $60 million, five-year deal from NFC East rival Philadelphia. Sensabaugh, who started 14 games last season, enters his seventh NFL season. He had a career-high five interceptions last season with 71 tackles.

The Dallas Cowboys won't play Sensabaugh the rest of this preseason, probably will sit inside linebacker Keith Brooking and may not have rookie receiver Dez Bryant.||||||| Sensabaugh and Brooking suffered shoulder injuries in the preseason game against San Diego on Saturday.
