Evans served as the primary backup to Pro Bowler Pat Williams last season. He started the final two regular season games and the playoff game against Philadelphia while Williams worked through legal problems and an injury. The Vikings almost had to bring Evans back because Williams' challenge of a positive drug test has yet to be resolved in court. If he loses his case, he and fellow tackle Kevin Williams will be suspended for the first four games of next season.
Evans received a two-game suspension Tuesday from the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy during a pair of offseason problems.|||||||
Evans was arrested twice this summer while he was on Miami's roster, for marijuana possession in Texas and for fighting with police in Florida. He will not be paid and is required to sit out this week and next, before he's eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, Dec. 10. Evans has been active for eight of the Vikings' 11 games, recording five tackles, one sack and two quarterback hurries.

Evans, who appeared in one game for the Dolphins as a rookie in 2006, was waived after he was arrested on June 23 for allegedly refusing to leave a taxi on South Beach and fighting with officers. Evans pleaded not guilty to multiple charges last month. He was on probation for a marijuana possession arrest when he was arrested in June, meaning he could face discipline under the NFL's conduct policy.

Evans played in one game as a rookie last season with the Dolphins. Evans was charged with multiple counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting with violence, along with single counts of disorderly intoxication and trespassing. One officer was allegedly bitten on the wrist, and a female officer sustained scrapes on her left knee, police said.
