A person familiar with the deal says Davis has agreed to a one-year contract to remain with the Washington Redskins. The person said Friday that Davis opted to remain with the Redskins after exploring options with the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.|||||||
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has yet to announce the deal. Davis might have been one of the most coveted tight ends on the free agent market if he were healthy, but he's recovering from a torn left Achilles suffered in a loss to the New York Giants in October. He had 24 catches for 325 yards in seven games last year.

Davis visited the Bills' facility Thursday after dining with team officials last weekend. Though interested in Buffalo, Davis hasn't ruled out re-signing with Washington. He's scheduled to visit the New York Jets on Friday.

Davis needed help to the sideline and then onto a trainer's table before he was carted to the locker room for further examination. He was the team's leading receiver with 23 catches for 312 yards entering Sunday's game.

Davis came into Week 3 with four receptions for 52 yards, but could be poised for another big game next Sunday, as the Redskins face a Buccaneers team that is last in the NFL in passing yards, yielding an average of 353.3 per game.
Davis and left tackle Trent Williams are set to play for the first time since Dec. 4 in Thursday's preseason opener after they were suspended for the final four games of 2011 for failing multiple drug tests.|||||||
Davis was having a career year with 59 catches and 796 yards before being suspended. He gets tested two or three times a week and meets weekly with a counselor. If he tests positive this season, he'll be suspended for a year.
