McCarthy says Zombo broke his shoulder blade in a collision during pregame warmups Friday, then played in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals despite the injury. The team has not established a firm timeline for his return. Zombo, an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan, played in 13 games with eight starts as a rookie last season.

Zombo says he was fined $7,500 by the NFL for his hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on Monday night. He said Thursday that he didn't disagree with the penalty, which he said was the result of aggressive play. Zombo is expected to start Sunday's game against Detroit.|||||||
Zombo was penalized for roughing the passer after making contact with Cutler's helmet on the hit in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Bears. The penalty wiped out an interception by linebacker Nick Barnett and helped the Bears drive for a game-tying field goal.
