Mathis and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed on a five-year contract, the latest key player the team has locked up.|||||||
A person familiar with the negotiations says Mathis' deal is worth $25.5 million with $7 million guaranteed. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because terms have not been announced.
The Dolphins signed Mathis on Tuesday to replace the injured Donald Thomas.|||||||
Mathis was cut by the Carolina Panthers before the season after starting 15 games in three seasons. He is the nephew of former Dolphins defensive tackle Bob Baumhower.
Mathis is listed as probable for the Panthers' season-opening contest with the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday due to a shoulder injury. The guard is expected to start, but Will Montgomery may be used if the injury becomes a problem.|||||||
Mathis is entering the season as the starting right guard after playing in nine games -- no starts -- for the Panthers last season.
