The Colts reached an agreement in principle with Walden on Tuesday.|||||||
Walden became a key player for the Packers injury-riddled defense each of the past two seasons and at 6-2, 250 has the ideal size for Pagano's defense. The former sixth-round draft pick had 106 tackles, six sacks, six passes defensed and two interceptions with Green Bay in 2011 and 2012.
The NFL has suspended Walden for the regular-season opener for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The league announced the punishment Tuesday and said Walden would not be paid for the Sept. 9 game against San Francisco.|||||||
In February, Walden reached a deferred judgment agreement to resolve a disorderly conduct-domestic abuse charge without pleading guilty. Walden spent last Thanksgiving weekend in jail after a dispute with his girlfriend. He agreed to perform 50 hours of community service and continue counseling.
The Packers have re-signed outside linebacker Erik Walden.|||||||
Walden appeared in 16 games for the Packers last season, with 15 starts. He had three sacks, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown. He originally signed with the Packers as a free agent in October 2010 and went on to play in nine games with two starts that season, along with another three starts in the postseason.
Walden was released from jail Monday after spending the weekend behind bars following his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence. Walden was arrested Friday in Brown County on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend at their apartment near Green Bay. County District Attorney John Zakowski said Walden's girlfriend originally told police they were arguing and he pushed her but she has changed her story to say she hit him first.|||||||
No formal charges have been filed, though prosecutors are still investigating. Zakowski said he needs more time to interview others to see if this is a case of miscommunication or if the woman is trying to protect Walden. He is scheduled to return to court Dec. 7.
Walden was arrested Friday on suspicion of felony domestic violence/substantial battery and will remain in the Brown County Jail until at least Monday.|||||||
Walden allegedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend at the couple's apartment in Lawrence, just outside of Green Bay. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Brown County Court is closed for the weekend, so while Walden's teammates have the next three days off following the team's 27-15 Thanksgiving Day victory at Detroit, Walden will remain in jail.
