Henderson has been cleared to play against Tampa Bay despite left knee soreness.|||||||
Henderson missed practice Thursday and Friday and was listed as questionable for Sunday. But he is in the lineup to face the Buccaneers.
The Vikings announced Thursday that Henderson is a late addition to the NFC Pro Bowl team, capping a remarkable comeback from a badly broken left leg.|||||||
Henderson started all 16 games in 2010 and tied for the NFL lead among linebackers with three interceptions. He broke his leg during a December 2009 game and had a titanium rod put in. The injury required months of rehabilitation and put his career in jeopardy.
Henderson is something of a medical marvel. The Minnesota Vikings middle linebacker has played all 12 games this season despite breaking his left thigh bone just more than a year ago in a game against Arizona. Henderson is second on the team with tackles and leads all linebackers with three interceptions.|||||||
There was no documented case of an NFL player returning from this kind of injury. Trainers Eric Sugarman and Tom Hunkele (hunk-LEE) put together a rehab program from scratch, and Henderson made it back to start the season opener at New Orleans. The Vikings have presented Henderson's case both locally and nationally. It's been written up in medical journals and is considered the road map for future cases.
Henderson stretched with the Vikings before Thursday's practice, but is far from returning to full activity.|||||||
Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier says the team has "fingers crossed" that Henderson can come back from a broken left leg and play the season opener on Sept. 9.

Henderson spoke to reporters on Tuesday night before receiving the team's annual award for community service. He was also hosting an event at Winter Park for his youth foundation. Henderson says he started walking without a cane a few weeks ago. He says his recovery is on schedule and that he should be back by August. He has been rehabilitating in the training room at team headquarters nearly every day.
