San Diego wide receivers Eddie Royal and Robert Meachem are inactive for the Chargers' game against the Kansas City Chiefs because of hamstring injuries.|||||||
Danario Alexander was expected to start in Meachem's place and safety Eric Weddle was expected to return punts for Royal. Curtis Brinkley is expected to return kickoffs for Richard Goodman, who was put on injured reserve on Monday.

Royal was hurt last weekend in a win over Minnesota when he collided with a teammate on a punt return. He has 18 catches for 153 yards this season.

Royal, who also missed practice time last week with a toe injury, collided with a teammate during a punt return late in Denver's victory over Minnesota last Sunday. Coach John Fox said the team was being cautious with Royal and following the league-mandated medical protocols on concussions.
Royal is recovering from an offseason hip operation, but team spokesman Patrick Smyth says the Broncos are hopeful the wide receiver "will be ready for OTAs in late May."|||||||
A key component of Denver's deep receiving corps, Royal had a bounce-back season in 2010 despite dealing with a nagging groin injury all year. The third-year pro caught 59 passes for 627 yards and three touchdowns. He also averaged 11.9 yards on 25 punt returns and 21.4 yards on five kickoff returns. Any setbacks in Royal's recovery could open up more playing time for Demaryius Thomas, the Broncos' top draft pick last year who had an injury-plagued rookie season.
