Less than a week after signing Stanton, the Jets traded him to the Indianapolis Colts for an undisclosed draft pick.||||||| Stanton signed a one-year, $1.25 million deal last week to back up Mark Sanchez, but became expendable when the Jets acquired Tebow from the Denver Broncos on Wednesday. After that trade, general manager Mike Tannenbaum said Tebow would be the team's No. 2 quarterback. "It's a big relief to have this over," Stanton told The Associated Press. "I'm excited about the opportunity in Indy. I can't wait to get there and get down to business."

A person familiar with the New York Jets' plans says the team is trying to trade Stanton.||||||| The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday because the team hasn't announced its plans. Stanton signed a $1.25 million, 1-year deal last week to be Mark Sanchez's backup, but the Tim Tebow deal has relegated Stanton to another third-string job. He left the Detroit Lions for a chance to be a No. 2 QB after sitting behind Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill.

Stanton tells The Associated Press the deal was agreed to Friday, a day after he arrived to meet with team officials. The Jets signed Mark Sanchez to a three-year contract extension last week.||||||| Stanton made the most of limited opportunities to play during his first three seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. He was 2-1 as a starter in 2010 with four touchdowns, including one on the ground, and two interceptions. Stanton didn't play last year as Detroit's third-string quarterback behind Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill. He has completed 56 percent of his passes in 12 career games, including four starts, for 1,158 yards with five TDs and nine interceptions.

Stanton completed 10 of 22 passes for 117 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Packers.||||||| Stanton has put up pedestrian numbers since taking over the starting quarterback duties in Detroit, completing 56.5 percent of his passes for 295 yards with two TDs and two picks. It is uncertain if Stanton will make another start with Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill recovering from their injuries.
