The Patriots signed Thomas to bolster a unit that lost center Dan Koppen to an ankle injury.||||||| Thomas was drafted by Miami in 2008 in the sixth round out of Connecticut and spent two seasons with the Dolphins and one with Detroit. He signed with the Lions last Nov. 23 and was inactive for the last six games. He was released on Sept. 3.

The Dolphins placed Thomas, a starting rookie guard, on the injured reserve list Tuesday. Thomas suffered a foot injury in Sunday's season opener against the New York Jets.||||||| Thomas, a sixth-round draft pick from Connecticut, had been wearing a protective boot on the foot at practice Monday but had expected to practice Wednesday.
