Dockery was released by Buffalo on Thursday, when the Bills cleared salary cap space to prepare for free agency. He was a third-round draft pick of the Redskins in 2003, and played his first four NFL seasons with the team - starting every game in the 2004, 2005 and 2006 seasons. He left for Buffalo as a free agent after the 2006 season.
Dockery expects to be released on Thursday.|||||||
The pending move come a day before the start of NFL free agency and are an indication that the Bills plan to be active in hopes of revamping a team coming off three consecutive 7-9 finishes. Dockery's agent, Todd France, said he was informed by the Bills that they wanted to go in a different direction. He added that Dockery didn't fit the offensive line scheme under assistant Sean Kugler, who took over last year after Jim McNally retired.
Dockery, who spent his first four seasons with Washington, signed a seven-year, $49 million deal that includes $18.5 million guaranteed.|||||||
Dockery started 61 of 64 games in four years with the Redskins, including all 16 the past three seasons.
