Anderson says he has agreed to a one-year contract to remain with the Carolina Panthers as Cam Newton's backup. Anderson says he will sign the contract later Wednesday. Financial details were not disclosed.||||||| Anderson told The Associated Press he's "excited to come back be a part of such a great locker room." He says Carolina is a team "on the rise" and though the Panthers "have some work to do ... we feel like we ended on a high note last season."

He would not disclose the financial terms of the deal.||||||| Anderson says he likes the progress the Panthers showed in 2011 under first-year coach Ron Rivera and that he's "just excited to get back and build on the success that we had last season." The 28-year-old Anderson is expected again to backup Cam Newton, who was named the Associated Press' offensive rookie of the year last season.

Anderson sat out practice again Thursday because he had not been cleared to participate after a concussion sidelined him late in Sunday's 19-6 loss to St. Louis.||||||| That left rookie John Skelton and newly signed Richard Bartel as the only quarterbacks to practice.

Anderson has apologized for his Monday night post-game tirade. "My mom and dad didn't raise me to act like that in times of adversity," he said. The quarterback's rant, now a nationwide Internet spectacle, came after a series of questions from a reporter about why Anderson was smiling with teammate Deuce Lutui on the sidelines while the Cardinals were trailing by 18 points late in the game.||||||| Anderson was low-key and contrite as he opened his weekly news conference on Wednesday. "Let's try to do this in a manner that doesn't end up all over the YouTube, if we can," he said. " ... Obviously I was very frustrated by what had happened during the game, and I let my emotions get away from me."
