New Orleans decided to sit Hawthorne after giving up more than 400 yards in their first seven games.
Saints starting linebackers Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne are injured and it's not certain whether either will be back for New Orleans' regular-season opener against Washington.|||||||
Assistant head coach Joe Vitt says Hawthorne has a torn meniscus and was scheduled for surgery Monday. Vitt did not specify which leg the linebacker hurt.

The team confirmed the signing on Tuesday. It was first reported by Mac's Football Blog. According to the NFL players association database, Hawthorne will make $900,000 in base salary for the 2011 season. It's a raise of more than $200,000 from what he is making this season.
The Seahawks have used the exclusive rights tender on Hawthorne.|||||||
By using that tender on Hawthorne, only the Seahawks can negotiate with him because he has no free agency privileges. Had they not made this tender, he could have talked to other teams as a restricted free agent.
