Carolina activated Gettis from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to take his place.||||||| Gettis, a former sixth-round draft pick by the Panthers, started 15 games as a rookie in 2010. He tore his ACL in training camp prior to the 2011 season and struggled with hamstring issues this past summer, forcing Carolina to place him on the PUP list.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera says trainers are optimistic Gettis will be back on the practice field in about "four or five days."||||||| Rivera says Gettis, who started 15 games for the Panthers in 2010, will not play for Carolina (No. 20 in the AP Pro32) in its preseason home opener Saturday night against the Houston Texans. For now, Gettis remains on the active-PUP list. Gettis tore his left ACL last year in training camp and has been rehabbing ever since.

An MRI Thursday revealed Gettis tore the ACL in his left knee and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.||||||| Gettis injured his knee Wednesday night and was carted off the field after practice. He injured the knee while attempting to run a route.
