Carolina activated Gettis from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to take his place.|||||||
Gettis, a former sixth-round draft pick by the Panthers, started 15 games as a rookie in 2010. He tore his ACL in training camp prior to the 2011 season and struggled with hamstring issues this past summer, forcing Carolina to place him on the PUP list.

Rivera says Gettis, who started 15 games for the Panthers in 2010, will not play for Carolina (No. 20 in the AP Pro32) in its preseason home opener Saturday night against the Houston Texans. For now, Gettis remains on the active-PUP list. Gettis tore his left ACL last year in training camp and has been rehabbing ever since.
